How to break in RM Williams Comfort Craftsman Boot, fast!

You’ve finally bit the bullet and invested in a pair of RM Williams Comfort Craftsman boots.

Congratulations!

Now, it’s time to break in your shiny new boots, aka - the least exciting part of buying new boots. The upside being you’ll be rewarded with fresh cushy soles, a snug fit and timeless boots that will last for years, even decades for some!

Breaking in your RM Williams Boots is crucial for comfort and blister prevention. Check out these easy peasy steps to help you break in your RM Williams Comfort Craftsman boots quickly and effectively:

Start off on the right foot. When shopping for boots be sure to choose the right fit. Ensure your safety boots fit well from the start, they should not be too tight or too loose. If you spend a lot of time on your feet, consider going up half a size to allow for swelling as your feet fatigue.

Straight out of the box:

  1. Flex the Boots: Before wearing them, manually flex the boots. Bend them back and forth to soften the leather.
  2. Use Leather Conditioner: Apply a leather conditioner. Not only will it protect your new shoes, but it will help soften the taut new leather, easing in the break in period.
  3. Insert Insoles: If you usually prefer insoles, be sure to add them for comfort and support. Giving your feet a familiar pad can help reduce the initial stiffness while allowing the boot to mould to your foot.

Put them on your feet:

  1. Use Thick Socks: Wear thick moisture-wicking socks to protect your feet and help the boots conform to your foot shape. Merino wool socks and RM Williams Comfort Craftsman boots go together like peas and carrots! Not to mention, they’re a game changer when it comes to breathability. Breathability = Fewer hot spots!
  2. Wear Them Around the House: Wear your RM Williams Comfort Craftsman boots indoors to get used to them, then if you’re feet start to ache you can easily swap them out for some comfortable slippers.
  3. Go slow: Start by wearing the boots for short periods, around 1-2 hours a day, gradually increase the duration each day.

You’re tried ALL of that, but you’re still struggling?

  1. Use Blister Prevention Products: Apply moleskin or blister pads to areas that are rubbing you the wrong way.
  2. Consider Professional Stretching: Consider taking your boots to a professional cobbler for stretching if they still feel too tight.
  3. Be Patient: Breaking in boots can take some time. Be patient and consistent with these steps to be rewarded with long term comfort.

By following these tips, you can break in your beautiful new RM Williams Comfort Craftsman boots more comfortably and reduce the risk of foot pain.
